Cincinnati Programs

Cincinnati has several unit specific programs designed to further create the mentor relationship the staff share with our youth. Our School Visit program is one program that has produced tremendous results. For this program two active duty Marine staff personal go to the school of a selected Young Marine and bring them lunch and sit with them amongst their peers. The Marines will speak with the Young Marine’s teachers and school counselors to check the progress of a Young Marines academic studies. This is all done with the permission of the parent and the school since; the Marines are in full dress uniform for the visit. Since the Cincinnati unit is based out of an actively running reserve center the unit has great access to military materials and equipment. The Young Marines get classes in military radios, military vehicles, land navigation and many other fields The staff also has many special guests to come in and teach the Young Marines various tips and tools. The Ohio State Troopers, Cincinnati Fire Department are just some of the local organizations that are brought in to help teach extra classes. The Young Marines of Cincinnati have several available color guards that constantly participate in local parades and events. We are always looking at showing off our drilling skills and are more than happy to attend any event that we are able to.

Encampments

Encampments are camping trips. The unit will transport the Young Marines to a camp site and conduct field training. Training consist of land navigation, camouflage, concealment training, field fires etc. On many occasions there be multiple units attending an encampment so the YoungMarines at that point can compete with others on their newly learned skills. The encampments are typically conducted during the summer months as to not interfere with school. The unit tries to conduct more than one encampment a year but it is based of the year's mission for the unit.
